Pat soil with hand and mix small seeds with a handful of sand. Spead over ground and cover lightly with soil or compost.

The darker center flowers are surrounded by overlapping bracts and are about 4 cm inches across.

Direct sow starting just before the last frost, and again every two weeks until the end of May.

Most recommended: Can be direct sown in autumn as well.

Starting indoors is not necessary, but can be accomplished by keeping seed trays in the dark at the optimal soil temperature of 15-21°C ). Move under bright lights once germination occurs, and transplant out in late spring, around mid-May.
