Parsley is a biennial and will overwinter, but it is mostly grown as an annual. Parsely can be slow to germinate taking 3-5 weeks. To germinate faster ensure the soil is warm 15-30 and moist with pH of 5.0 to 7.0. Soaking seed in lukewarm water for several hours before sowing is beneficial. Some growers advocate the use of boiling water or freezing seed for a short time. Sow indoors, from late winter to early spring and outdoors in early spring, before the last frost. Ensure constant moisture until after germination. Thin or space plants at 18-25 cm apart.

Grow several plants around these garden favourites, asparagus, carrots, chives, corn, onions, and tomatoes.

Leaves can be sprinkled on asparagus to repel asparagus beetles. It is said that parsley sprinkled around roses improves their scent.

Let some of your parsley go to bloom to attract hover-flies and predatory wasps.
