Peas prefer cool weather. When soil reached 10-16C peas can be down directly into soil spacing 6-7 cm apart. Double rows work well with this type of pea. Space double rows 75 cm apart. Sow peas 1.5-2.5 cm deep and sow successive crops 10-14 days apart to have an extended harvest. Keep soil moist during the 5-10 day germination period. High nitrogen fertilizers should be avoided with peas.
When flowering starts keep watered well to allow pods to form. Pick daily to encourage new growth and higher yields.
Remember all members of the legume family should be inoculated prior to sowing.
An inoculate is easy to make and lasts for a year or more.
