Koral Carrot (Daucus carota) is a late and very productive carrot variety recommended particularly for processing juices, purees, frozen food, and preserves. Koral carrot stores well and does not lose its nutritional nor gustatory assets in the process. It does not bifurcate, break, turn green, and it does not accumulate nitrates either. It produces long 20 cm, intensely orange roots that contain plenty of sugar, water, and carotenes, which makes them exceptionally tasty, sweet, and juicy. Koral is grown from sowing, intended either for summer and autumn harvest and consumption or for winter storing. Seeds for the summer harvest are sown in April, and for winter storing in the first half of May. Seeds should be sown in rows in 30-40 x 5 cm spacings. After the sprouting you should thin the seedlings, leaving 5 - 8 cm distances between plants. Light, sandy or sandy-clay, moderately moist, and slightly acidic soils work best in carrot cultivation. Koral carrot may be harvested from September to October. -

A decidedly sweet root with a canary yellow colour and appreciated just as much raw as when cooked. Long smooth roots hold their colour throughout the cooking process. Packed with vitamins C, E, and K, plus folate and the antioxidant lutein. Yellowstone stores well in the ground for winter harvests and is lovely as a roasted vegetable with parsnips and other winter harvest root crops. Best carrot to sow in August for fall and winter harvests. Roots are sweeter after a few hard touches of frost. Yellowstone grow to 25 cm but their flavour is superior when harvested small! -

This rapidly growing member of the cabbage family produces a greenish-white enlarged stem with short tops and few leaves. Slow to bolt and early producing, White Vienna is best harvested when the stem reaches 5-7.5 cm in diameter. Keep soil moist during dry weather. The flesh is white with a nutty flavour when eaten raw and has a mild cabbage taste when cooked. Sow seed every two weeks from April through to early August. White Vienna is heirloom prior to 1860's. -

Ping Tung is the name of the town in Taiwan where it originated, making it an excellent variety for Asian cuisine. The fruits are light purple, from 30-45 cm long, and only 3 cm in diameter. Hardy, disease-resistant plants bear up to 20 sweet and tender fruit per plant. Stake the bushy plants for the straightest fruits. Eggplants thrive in containers, provided the soil is kept moist especially during the hottest days when they are fruiting. The plants work well in the open field and raised beds but benefit from full sun and wind protection. Eggplants grow best in heat. -

This charming wax bush bean is an old heirloom from Europe. It has yellow-green pods that are streaked and mottled with a gorgeous purple. Plants grow to be between 60-75 cm tall in a bush growth habit. The flavour of the pods is excellent and a must-try! This bean can be harvested as a green bean when pods are crisp or left to mature further and harvested as a shelling bean. The seeds are a mottled brown and very tasty. These pods are versatile both in their use, and their unique colouring. They can be used either fresh or as dried beans, and there is no other variety with coloring quite like theirs.
