Very easy to grow!  These tender perennials are grown as annuals in Canada. Adaptable to poor soil and will tolerate light shade! Direct sow seed in the garden in mid to late May sowing seed 6 mm deep. When seedlings are 20-30 cm high,  thin seedlings to 20 cm apart. For an early start, sow seeds indoors in a soil-less medium in early April-May  Keep soil temperature at 21 C  for the 5-10 day germination period. Once germinated grow-on at a lower temperature of 10-13 C before hardening off and transplanting to a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Calendula can re-seed itself but it is not invasive.

Calendula Cream

  • 1 cup calendula infused oil
  • 1-ounce beeswax 4 Tbsp
  • essential oils of your choice I used lavender and tangerine
  • 1 cup lukewarm non-chlorinated water
  • jars or tins to hold 2 cups

Instructions

Calendula Infused Oil

  • Add the flowers to a jar.
  • Cover and allow to sit in a sunny window for a few weeks.
  • Strain out the flowers, reserving the oil to make Calendula Cream.

Calendula Cream

  • Use a double boiler and add your beeswax and the calendula oil.
  • Heat until the beeswax melts completely into the oil.  Then take off the heat and stir in the essential oils.
  • Put the oil/wax/essential oil mixture into a blender (Hint: I warm my blender with hot water first)

  • Pour the mixture into containers.
  • Let the cream set up for several hours before use.
